Surah Al-Humazah Transliteration & Urdu + English Translation

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

Wailul-likulli hu mazatil-lumazah

Woe to every scorner and mocker

Tafseer:

This verse condemns those who mock or ridicule others. Mockery hurts relationships and breeds animosity. The words “humazah” and “lumazah” describe both subtle and direct forms of insult. It applies to anyone who causes harm using words or gestures, whether in public or private.

Allazee jama’a maalanw wa ‘addadah

Who collects wealth and [continuously] counts it.

Tafseer:

This verse cautions against greed and unhealthy attachment to wealth. Some people hoard money and continuously calculate their riches. Their obsession blinds them to moral values and spiritual duties. True worth lies in virtues, not material possessions.

Yahsabu anna maalahooo akhladah

He thinks that his wealth will make him immortal.

Tafseer:

The verse reveals a common misconception. The wealthy often believe their riches provide security and permanence. The harsh reality is that neither wealth nor power can stop death. This false sense of invincibility leads to pride and arrogance.

Kallaa; layumbazanna fil hutamah

No! He will surely be thrown into the Crusher.

Tafseer:

Here, Allah rejects the illusion of immortality through wealth. The term “Crusher” metaphorically describes Hell, a place of unbearable torment. Those who indulge in greed and mockery shall face this fate.

Wa maa adraaka mal-hutamah

And what can make you know what is the Crusher?

Tafseer:

This rhetorical question emphasizes Hell’s unimaginable severity. It urges reflection on its horrors, which are far beyond human comprehension.

Naarul laahil-mooqada

It is the fire of Allah, [eternally] fueled,

Tafseer:

The fire mentioned in this verse is unlike any fire in the world. Its intensity is fueled by divine will. It is not a natural phenomenon. It awaits those who persist in arrogance and harmful actions.

Allatee tattali’u ‘alal af’idah

Which mounts directly at the heart.

Tafseer:

Hell’s fire will reach the most sacred part of a person, the heart. This detail symbolically highlights the punishment targeting the seat of intentions, emotions, and actions. The heart that indulges in greed and slander will bear the consequences.

Innahaa ‘alaihim mu’sada

Indeed, Hellfire will be closed down upon them

Tafseer:

This verse speaks of confinement. The fire will surround and trap its victims. There will be no escape or respite. Such an outcome reflects the lasting regret of those consumed by wealth at the expense of morality.

Fee ‘amadim mumaddadah

In extended columns.

Tafseer:

The phrase describes how the torment will be sealed. It portrays suffocation and restriction. The sinners will face relentless suffering, directly correlating to their actions in life.
