Why Was Surah Al-Kafirun Revealed?
When the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) resided in Makkah, the Quraish leaders expressed a rare proposition to him. They offered mutual worship. The Prophet (PBUH) would worship their idols for a year, and they, in turn, would worship Allah for the next year. This compromise was an attempt to merge truth and falsehood. It was unacceptable.
Allah revealed Surah Al-Kafirun in response. The verses gave a clear rejection of such ideas. They separated the belief in Allah from all other religions. Truth and falsehood cannot mix.
