Surah Al-Qariah Transliteration and Urdu & English Translation

Bismillaahir Rahmaanir Raheem

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

Al qaari’ah

The Striking Calamity –

Mal qaariah

What is the Striking Calamity?

Wa maa adraaka mal qaari’ah

And what can make you know what is the Striking Calamity?

Yauma ya koonun naasu kal farashil mabthooth

It is the Day when people will be like moths, dispersed,

Wa ta koonul jibalu kal ‘ihnil manfoosh

And the mountains will be like wool, fluffed up.

Fa-amma man thaqulat mawa zeenuh

Then as for one whose scales are heavy [with good deeds],

Fahuwa fee ‘ishatir raadiyah

He will be in a pleasant life.

Wa amma man khaffat mawa zeenuh

But as for one whose scales are light,

Fa-ummuhu haawiyah

His refuge will be an abyss.

Wa maa adraaka maa hiyah

And what can make you know what that is?

Naarun hamiyah

It is a Fire, intensely hot.

Surah Al-Qariah Transliteration and Tafseer of Surah Al-Qariah

Surah Al-Qariah consists of different verses that clearly explain everything that will happen in the Hereafter. The following text provides a complete interpretation of these verses:

Verses 1–3

“The Striking Calamity. What is the Striking Calamity? Do you have any knowledge of what the Striking Calamity truly is?”

These initial verses present a description of the unbelievable events that will happen on Judgment Day. A Qariah describes an unprecedented event that causes widespread panic and disorder among people. These initial verses highlight the tower of power coming in the future day, despite the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) being unable to understand it as explained by “What can make you know?”

Verse 4

The people on this day will scatter like molting insects throughout their surroundings.

The day will create widespread human disorder similar to the chaotic flight patterns of moths in aimless circles. The image presents the chaotic state of people who struggle with understanding reality in the life beyond.

Verse 5

The mountains will appear as woolen masses disintegrated into loose particles.

Earthly mtains which symbolize stability will vanish completely. All those materials will transform into hundreds of insubstantial fragments which resemble sheepwool tangled by strong gusts of wind. Allah demonstrates absolute power by dissolving everything temporal in this world.

Verses 6–7

Those who have good deeds balanced on their scales will experience an enduring pleasant life.

All human actions shall be balanced during the judgment process that determines one’s destiny. The ones who perform numerous good deeds will attain everlasting happiness in Paradise because Allah grants them fulfillment through rewarding everything they accomplish.

Verses 8–9

A person with only light scales will end up going into an abyss.

Their insufficient deeds will lead to serious repercussions. According to this text “abyss” designates the place of punishment and despair which those individuals will experience in Hell.

Verses 10–11

The abyss remains concealed from you unless someone reveals its essence to you. It is a Fire, intensely hot.”

These religious verses describe Hell as an accumulation of unmanaged fire that burns without stopping. The intense graphic details create a warning for people to seek Allah’s guidance and mercy.
